The sequence of home wins in the Five-Nations Rugby championship, which was set up last year, continued in the opening two matches of the 1974 season on Saturday — but only just. Wales beat Scotland, 6-0, at Cardiff, with a single score, a try by the new cap, I. Cabnet. converted by P. Bennett, in the twenty-third minute.
In Paris. France snatched a 9-6 victory over Ireland with a penalty goal in injury time.
Last season all 10 matches in the championship resulted in home wins — and so all five countries shared the title.
