Four teams in doubt
Two countries, the Bahamas and Sierra Leone, are in danger of being excluded from the Commonwealth Games unless they make known today their entries.
The chairman of the Games Organising Committee (Mr R. S. Scott) said last evening that several sports were making out their draws, and the deadlines for entries had just about been reached.
Mr Scott said that cablegrams had also been sent to two other countries, Lesotho and Tanzania, which although they had made entries had
now “gone missing.’’ If none of these four countries arrive, it will leave 37 competing nations and fewer than 1800 competitors, the figures expected about a year ago.
Over the last six months, the Games village committee has worked on a figure of about 2000 residents, but the committee’s chairman (Mr H. T. Dean) said yesterday that 1800 would be ideal, and would eliminate any overcrowding.
