Bikies appear in court
GKEYMOI'TH. January 7. Twelve members of a Christchurch motm-cvcle garni, who appeared in the Greymouth .Magistrate’s Court today, were remanded on bail of S->OO each to appear in the Westport .Magistrate’s Court on January 17 o n joint charges of unlawful assembly.
Two of the 12 appeared in the Children’s Court. Mr R. W. Samson. J Pordered each defendant to report dailv to the Christchurch, Hornby, or Papanui police stations. They were jointly charged that on January 5 and 6 they were members of an assembly of persons at Carter s Beach Domain, Westport, who caused persons in the neighbourhood to fear that those assembled would use violence against persons or property The I<> who appeared in open court are Kevin Bernard Murphy, act'd 21. a boilermak>r. nan, 20, an apprentice refrigeration engineer, Michael John Gee, 18. a clerk, Gary Owen Cameron. 19. a labourer. Peter Wayne Muir, 17, •a cabinetmaker, Nigel Philip Hume. 17, an apprentice Joiner. Peter James McFetrish, 18, a storeman. Peter Timothy Leary. 18. an apprentice cabinetmaker, and Michael David Trewhitt, 20. an apprentice motor mechanic Three females who were in the party returned to Christchurch by rail-car yesterday morning, and the’ 12 males were escorted on their motor-cycles to Christchurch bv the police after, their court appearances.
