Sarapu draws
The defending champion, O. Sarapu (Auckland), dropped half a point in the ninth i round of the New Zealand chess championship in Christchurch on Saturday, 'but his chances of winning Shis thirteenth title still look bright. Sarapu has gained 8) points from nine games and leads the nearest challenger, P. Garbett (North Shore), by one point. In the ninth round Sarapu drew with W. A. Fairhurst (Auckland), and Garbett beat G. Hall (Canterbury). N. Metge has an unbeatable lead in the premier reserve, having won his nine games and gaining nine points.
