CATTLE THEFT

(X.Z. Press Assoctationl NAPIER. Jan. 4. Ross Wilson Dagg. aged 47, a fanner, of Patoka, pleaded guilty in the Napier Magistrate’s Court today to; stealing 36 head of cattle.; valued at $4850, between Julv 15, 1971. and September 15, 1972. Mr W. K. L. Dougall. S.M.. remanded Dagg on bail until next Fridav for sentence. Detective Senior-Sergeant N Stokes said Dagg owned a 930-acre property at Patoka bordering a Forestry block. Several other farms also bordered the forest area, and

in the last few years they had lost cattle. In December, one of the neighbouring fanners had seen six of his cows on Dagg’s property. When the police inspected the herd they found the other missing cattle. Abortion tags had been taken from their ears and ear marks had been removed with a pocket knife. Age marks had been altered, said Detective Senior-Ser-geant Stokes. Dagg had told the police that he had had some of the cows for several years, and had calves which were born to them.
