Young cooks
Time For Tea. By Cecilia H. Hinde. Faber. 142 pp. This is another children’s cookbook by the author of “Floury Fingers,” which was a book aimed at very young children. "Time for Tea” is aimed for an older age group, but the book could still be used by beginners as the author assumes no previous knowledge of cooking. As the title suggests, these are tea-time recipes: cakes, biscuits, sausage rolls, a few sweets.
The most successful thing about this book is the method which clearly sets out the ingredients and utensils to be used in each recipe. Some children will undoubtedly require help but the book does allow for as much self-sufficiency as possible. The author’s illustrations are simple, but help show the ingredients, and also serve the function of breaking up the type. This book is a worthy successor to “Floury Fingers.”
