Sarapu has * 1 1 good lead With three rounds remaining, O. Sarapu (Auckland) has a convincing lead in the New Zealand chess championships at the University of Canterbury. Sarapu, attempting to win his. thirteenth title, gained a vital victory over his nearest challenger, P. A. Garbett j (North Shore), in the eighth 'round yesterday. ; Garbett, who was one and a half points behind Sarapu at the start of the eighth round, was beaten after an hour’s play in adjournment last evening. I Results were:— Premier reserve,—N. Metge Garbett; P. J. Hensman (Hamilton) beat Dr U. Aavelard (London); A. Day (Auckland) drew with E. Green (Kawerau); P. Dalv (Auckland) drew with Dr W. A.
