ACCIDENT RISE

A part-time ban on private vehicles in London’s Oxford Street during the last 11 months has resulted in a 12 per cent rise in the accident rate in the street, it is reported from Britain.

The Greater London Council is investigating the situation, and the Automobile Association has said the restriction of- traffic to buses and taxis only at certain times has resulted in pedestrians using the street being lulled into a false sense of security.
