China-Japan trade pact

TOKYO. The Japanese Foreign Minister (Mr Masayoshi Ohira) left Tokyo today on a fourday visit to China, during which he will sign a bilateral trade agreement mutually ■ granting most-favoured-nation trading status. The pact will be the first ; practical agreement to be concluded between the two nations isnce they restored diplomatic relations in September, 1972. During his stay in Peking, Mr Ohira will also have talks with the Chinese Prime Minister (Chou En-lai) and other Chinese leaders on bilateral topics and international issues. J Government sources say that the new trade pact will I further encourage two-way I trade, which has been expanding since the restoration of diplomatic ties. According to the semiofficial Japan External Trade Organisation, two-way trade totalled more than SUS2OOOm Hast vear, almost double that lof 1972.
