Carnation show
More than 260 exhibits are on show todav in the South Island Carnation Society’s twenty-sixth annua exhibition at the Horticultural Hall.
The two-day exhibition was opened yesterdav by Ci W. Massey, representing" ths Mayor (Mr N. G. Pickering) Both the judges — Messrs A. Hickling and R. Weir - commented on the good quality of the blooms ever though dry weather hac brought the carnations out about 10 days early. The standard of entries was definitely better thar last year and the prizes wers well spread, the secretary ol the society (Mr E. F Mar getts) said. The attendant! was up on last year, he said . The premier bloom of th( show is “Persian Pink.’ exhibited by Mr J. Marshall The premier border bloom i ; ■■Marion," exhibited bv Mi Margetts, the secretary.
