Farmer may miss Games

(N.Z.P. A. -Reuter—Copyright) SYDNEY.

P. Farmer, the Australian champion hammer-thrower and one of the gold-medal favourites in the Commonwealth Games, is a doubtful starter.

Farmer’s mother, Mrs H. J. Farmer, said yesterday that he had been unable to raise the fare from El Paso, where he is studying at the University of Texas, to join the Australian team in Sydney. Government and sporting organisations in Australia have declined to provide financial aid to Games sportsmen living overseas, saying this would establish an unfortunate precedent.
