CYCLING BAN IN FORCE

The wearing of individual sponsorship clothing by amateur cyclists is now not permitted in New Zealand.

Mr M. E. Spackman, public relations officer for the Amateur Cycling Association. said yesterday that an amnesty period had expired and advertising would not be allowed.

“If any rider is individually sponsored, he is disqualified as an amateur,’* said Mr Spackman. “This is particularly important at Commonwealth Games time, where so many eyes will be on us.” The ban on individual sponsorship is an International one, formulated by the F.I.A.C. (the international amateur cycling federation) and the International Olympic Committee’s eligibility rules.
