The brilliant “day-glo” red paintwork is being tested on this new fire-engine in Christchurch. The use of this paint is calculated to make the machine m ore conspicuous in daylight, and also at night — especially under sodium street lights, which!; make the present engines look black. If it is successful, says the Christchurch Chief Fire Officer (Mr F. A. Hardy), the colour will be used on all new machines.
