RHODESIAN GOVT PLAN

i Condemnation by A.N.C. (N.Z.P. A. -Reuter—Copyright) SALISBURY, Jan. 3. The African National Council has strongly condemned the Rhodesian Government’s campaign to bring in up to one million immigrants this year. An A.N.C. spokesman, Mr Edson Sithole, declared that the Government’s policy was “aimed at swelling the white population, so as to secure the so-called ‘white man’s future’ in the country,” and he went on: “On the one hand, the Government is encouraging, or urging, Africans to reduce their birth-rate because there is not enough land, and, on the other, it calls for a million immigrants. Does that make sense?”

Mr Sithole predicted that the campaign would fail “because the political and security situations in Rhodesia are not encouraging to the immigrant.”
