The Ferodo Trophy, for the Commonwealth's most outstanding contribut ion to motor racing. ha< th> season been awarded to Lord Hesketh. the manager and patron of the Formula 1 team in which James Hunt is the driver. The team scored some notable successes m its first year of racing. if: $ Nominations for the Man of the Future driver's award now being run in Australia include the New Zealand drivers D. McMillan (three nominations), B. Riley, and G. Baker. McMillan was Formula Ford champion in New Zealand last season, winning seven of the 13 races in the series. Riley is the son of the saloon driver, J. Riley, and last season was his first in racing. Baker is a Christchurch driver who has done well both in Formula Ford, and at the wheel of the P.D.L. team’s Mustang. An American motor sport administrator has told the American Government that football matches in that country use five times as much fuel as motor races, and thus has forestalled, for the moment, any ban on motor racing tn the United States. British writers are at present saying that a ban on motor racing in Britain would seriously damage the racing industry there, which earns the country s2om a year in exports. The Ferrari driver C. Regazzoni was not hurt when his new Ferrari Grand Prix car was written off in a testing accident recently. Graham Hill also had a. testing accident recently, but he was not hurt when his car hit a retaining barrier at more than 100 m.p.h. Hill said the Lola spun because the tyres were not fully warmed up, and had not stabilised.
