Rubydelicious

Rubydelicious, the American soul group now playing at Christies, is, as we have said before, well worth hearing. The group will be at Christies until January 12, when it leaves to tour the rest of the country. The versatile group has played not only at discos and nightclubs, but also in concert halls. Ruby, the lead singer, had an early start in her career. As a toddler, like Aretha Franklin, she sang in a church in San Francisco. Her father was the Baptist minister there. Ruby did a short stint as an accountant but figured she had a better head for music and left to join a singing group and later a band. “I was doing mostly background singing and wanted to do my own

thing with my own group,” she said. In 1969 she formed the five - member Rubydelicious. Patricia Lewis, who plays the keyboard and sings, was also from an all-girl vocalist group called Sisters of the Ghetto. She joined the present group after the Sisters broke up. Dale Smith, the bassist, has been playing professionally since the age of 14 (he’s now 22). He has been described as a good, creative and energetic musician. Both the lead guitarist, Howard Trumbo, and Richard Lewis Rougeauz, the drummer, have also been in the entertainment scene for quite some time and are superb on their instruments.
