SUBURBAN WINS

Christchurch Suburban prevailed in an exciting finish to its two-day cricket match with Wellington Mercantile recently.

Suburban scored 289 for seven declared in its first innings, B. Malden contributing a brilliant 117. Wellington struggled to 135 in its first innings, but recovered to make 325 after following on. Suburban needed 172 in 175 minutes for victory. The eighth and ninth wickets both fell at 171, but S. Crocker hit the winning run. Scores:—

Gore 4/58).
