Yachtsman dies

X 7. Press Assn —Copyright SYDNEY.

A crew member of the New Zealand yacht Inca collapsed and died yesterday a few hours after the start of the Sydney-to-Hobart yacht race, officials at the race information centre said tonight.

They said the man had been taken aboard the communications ship Mia Mia which was heading for Jervis Bay about 100 miles south of Sydney. They said they would not release the dead man’s name until relatives in New Zealand had been informed. The officials said that Inca’s skipper, Evan Julian, was also on board the Mia Mia and that the yacht was continuing in the race. They said that a doctor on board the Mia Mia had pronounced the man dead. They refused to give any further details about the incident.
