The Commonwealth

Sir.-—As a fourth genera- [ tion New Zealander, I am , proud of my British ancestry, J and I am proud of our Par-)' liamentary system of democracy inherited from Britain and which dates back in history for a thousand years. Like other Commonwealth countries New Zealand hasi no ties with Britain otherthan sentimental ones; we are completely independent. But it was Great Britain i which gave us our opportunely to develop the country we have. 1.D.8.’s suggestion that the Commonwealth Games organisers may offend certain nations bv using the word "British” in their adivertising in piffling. Without Britain there wouldn’t have been a Commonwealth. If some nations are offended they can always stay home, and I'm sure that those nations will never be missed. —Yours, etc., BERT WALKER, M.P. December 26, 1973.
