TROTTING Young Cardigan a likely winner at Auckland

•■The Press’’ Special Srrtira AUCKLAND. The consistent Tamhere gelding. Young ( ardigan. is fancied for the M G Pezaro Memorial at Alexandra Park tonight, when the chief interest will centre in the form of candidates for the l.’ifi.OOO Auckland Trotting Cup on Saturday.

Most of the Cup candidates i are engaged in the Pezaro Memorial, notably Arapaho, Royal i Ascot, Globe Ba\ and Black Watch. Under the invitation conditions, however, they are going to find it„difficult to beat some good horses on the fringe of Cup class. Besides Young Cardigan, those in the Pezaro Memorial seeking to make sure of a start in the Cup include Dwayne, Marie GibI bins, and Hi Foyle. Special interest will be focussed on the brilliant Taranaki four-year-old. Marie Gibbins. She was unbeaten in three races this season until she lost I all chance in the National Flyling Pace last Saturday with a bad break early. From No. I on | the front mark tonight, she is 'expected to make a reasonably good beginning. If she does, she iwill take a lot of beating.

tl Dwayne went well enough in ( the National Flying Pace (he C ■ was fourth! to warrant strong I . consideration, and the longer Ji journev will be in his favour. I The 'M. G. Pezaro Memorial is ( the first leg of the T.A.B. eon- I cession double. ’ The second, leg, the Commit- . ' tee Handicap, has drawn a cap- 1 ; acity Held and luck in the run•;ning will be an important lac- I tor. , . J The toughest to beat may be t uLordy Boy, Double Cash, and • Gav Hose.
