Surgeon asked to leave
y.Z.P. A.Reuter—Copyright) SANTIAGO. Dec. 26.
The Chilean military junta has asked a Swedish neuro- ’ surgeon, Mr Erik Kangstrom, to leave the country as soon as possible. Mr Kangstrom arrived in Santiago on Saturday, after the Swedish Government, had asked permission for him to be allowed to treat the former Chilean Minister of Agriculture, Mr Rolando Calderon. Mr Calderon, a Cabinet member in the deposed Government of the late Dr Salvador Allende, was hit by a bullet fired from outside the former Cuban Embassy grounds on December 19. He had taken refuge in the building since the military take-over last September. Sweden has handled ,’Cuba’s affairs since the junta 'broke off diplomatic relations with the Havana Govlernment after the coup d'etat.
I Earlier today, the Chilean 'Medical College had protested against the Swedish Government’s request for Mr Kangstrom to treat Mr Calderon. “There are neuroI surgeons of international 'repute in Chile, and. therefore. the presence of a foreign specialist is unnecessary,” it said.
