Royal gala day for disabled
f.V.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Disabled children from all over New Zealand will ride for Princess Anne and Captain Mark Phillips at an Ellerslie gala day in February if travel sponsorship can be found for out-of-Auckland youngsters.
The national demonstration has been organised by j the Riding for the Disabled Association for February 7 at the Ellerslie racecourse. The association has been working in New Zealand ; for about three years to enable disabled youngsters to enjoy the physical and mental benefits of horse i riding. It now has 16 groups established from ! Invercargill to Auckland. Princess Anne is the pat-. ; ron of the English association, and a spokesman j for the Auckland group t said that the Princess had requested an opportunity to meet children taking par* in the association’s activities.
Several hundred children are receiving riding instruction in various centres, and the association ; hopes that two riders from each group can be represented at the Royal event.
