Mixed doubles finals in schools tennis

B. Scott, of Shirley Boys’ High School, and Miss J. Ussher, of Lincoln High School, won the first final to be played in the Canterbury secondary schools tennis championships at Wilding Park yesterday.

In the final of the open mixed doubles, they beat D. Croy (Oxford District High School) and Miss P. Earle (Christchurch Girls’ High School), 4-6, 8-6, 8-6.

These pairs were seeded the other way round but, although the top seeds had much the better of the first set; Scott played some fine tennis in the next two sets and Miss Usher supported him solidly. However, Croy and Miss Earl were only a point away from winning in the third set. Scott and Croy have also reached the final of the boys’
