Arts grant paltry
A $lOOO grant from the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council to the Christchurch Town Hall was described by the chairman of the hall’s board of management (Mr H. G. Hay) as “pretty paltry.” "I am very disappointed with the paucity of the assistance we have got,” said Mr Hay. At the previous meeting of the board Mr Hay had said he hoped “optimistically” for a grant of about $64,000. He suggested that the next move was to approach local members of Parliament to press for the “significant Government contribution which has not yet been made” to the project.
