MISTAKE IN PLAN
Production of petrol
(N Z Press Assn—Copyright) WASHINGTON, Dec. 13. America’s nine-day-old Federal Energy Office leaped into the national spotlight yesterday with a huge proposal for petroleum distribution—and stumbled, the Associated Press reported. The office handed journalists copies of the 134-page regulation that stated in three places a proposal to cut petrol production by 25 per cent below 1972 production levels.
The news was spread! nation-wide within minutes I and was allowed to stand un-| questioned for some 10 hours; before journalists asking questions were told that the 25 per cent cut-back was wrong. It really was supposed to be only 5 per cent. N.Z.P.A.-Reuter said that Mr Simon unveiled a tough battle plan which would hit hardest at the everyday motorist.
Top priority customers such as emergency services, public transport, fuel producers, and agriculture will have their needs met fully while other commercial bulk users will be given the same amount of petrol as they used in 1972. Whatever is left over will go to individual car owners, according to the plan as outlined in a written statement by Mr Simon.
