SOCCER FINALS
Poland to compete
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) WARSAW.
Poland has confirmed to the International Soccer Federation (F.1.F.A.) that it will take part in next year’s World Cup finals in West Germany. A spokesman for the Polish Soccer Federation said yesterday that a letter confirming Poland’s participation had been sent to the world body. F.I.F.A. last month asked for written confirmation of participation from some qualifying countries amid speculation that Russia’s exclusion from the competition might lead to an East European boycott. Russia was excluded for refusing to play a deciding match against Chile in Santiago after the military coup there last September. Three East European countries have qualified for the finals—Bulgaria, Poland and East Germany.
