REWARD FOR INITIATIVE
/v Z Preu Association!
DUNEDIN. December 13. The initiative of 20 Queenstown secondary school pupils, and the desire of a rich New Caledonian to provide holiday homes in Queenstown for his entire family, have resulted in a $2BOO holiday in Auckland for 10 hoys and 10 girls. The New Caledonian, known in Queenstown only as Mr Montagnat, is building five holiday houses for himself and members of his family on a section of more than an acre. Tenders were called for clearing the section and making a garden, and the 20 fifth form and sixth form pupils of the Queentown District High School tendered. Their tender for $2OOO was accepted and they spent most of their spare time this year clearing the section, making lawns, and
planting shrubs and flowers.
The houses are now being built, and the boys and girls have just completed a 10-day holiday in the Auckland province. Other efforts, such as dances, were held to raise the balance of the $2BOO needed for the planned holiday, and Mount Cook Airlines helped by giving them reduced air fares to and from Auckland.
