Governor in smaller car
(y.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 12. The Governor-General (Sir Denis Blundell) is leaving his Rolls-Royce in the garage j these days. “In an effort to save fuel,] Sir Denis is being driven ini a smaller car. a Vanden Plas J It’s the smallest car in the stable, though it’s not really; a small car,’’ said a Government House spokesman. “It has a four-litre Rolls; motor instead of the 6j-litre; motor in the big Rolls. The. big car does between nine; and 12 miles per gallon on; the road, the Vanden Plas between 15 and 17 m.p.g. “It’s a saving of about half —the Vanden Plas is the smallest, because the only other car is a Ford Fairmont, used for carrying the luggage on a trip. “If we get a big party to go somewhere, the Rolls has two fold-down seats in the; back which can be used to make it a seven-seater, with; the chauffeur as well. If thei party gets this big it’s worth while taking the Rolls instead of two cars. “We didn't think it was; worth while to spend money; on a new small car in order to save fuel. But using the; smaller car is something which could be done imme-; diately,” said the spokesman.)
