Vasala for Ashburton
The Olympic Games 1500 metres gold medallist last year, P. Vasala. of Finland, will race in the pre-Common wealth Games meeting in Ashburton on January 12. The Ashburton Amateur Athletic Club yesterday re ceived advice of Vasala's acceptance of its invitation Vasala, who is accompanied by his wife, has been in NevZealand since Septembei. continuing his coaching under IMr A. L. Lydiard. He has been training recently with R. P. Dixon, of Nelson, who was the bronze medallist in the Olympic fi al. Vasala will be accompanied to Ashburton by Mr Lydiard, and both will remain for several days. Officials hope that both men will be available to coach local athletes during their stay.
