Warning on potatoes

(N.Z. Press Association) LEVIN. Recently sprayed potatoes taken from a Levin market garden during the week-end are described as “extremely toxic” by the Levin police. Between 60 and 70 plants were dug from a large crop between Friday night and Saturday morning. The crop had been sprayed with metasystox, a spray similar to organo-phosphorus, on Tuesday. Sergeant P. Grooby, of the Levin police, said the spray was “very toxic to supertoxic,” and anyone who might have eaten the potatoes should see their doctor at once. After a crop is sprayed with the chemical, it cannot be harvested for 28 days.
