Lincoln High School

Sir, —In view of the controversy surrounding the admission of a number of pupils from Hornby to Lincoln High School in 1974, may I inquire what the boundaries of the contributory area for this school are? For a number of years Hornby pupils have attended Lincoln and contributed to the growth of the school and it now seems that brothers or sisters of earlier pupils could be excluded from what may have become the family school. If contributory boundaries exist, I would like an assurance from Mr Senior or some other administrative officer that no pupils from outside such boundaries are enrolled at Lincoln.—Yours, etc., INTERESTED PARENT. November 19, 1973. [The principal of Lincoln)

High School (Mr R. B. Strange) replies: "The 1973 zones were drawn by the Department of Education, and published in “The Press” of June 16, 1973, with the Hornby area being included in the Riccarton High School zone. It has always been this school’s policy to accept brothers and sisters of those pupils already attending or who may have attended the school. The only limitation on the number attending from the Hornby area up until this year has been the number of places available on the school bus. The school will endeavour to continue this policy, but with the establishment of Hornby High School, and fixed contributing zones, this may be impossible. It is therefore difficult at this stage for the school to give any definite information about future boundaries.”]
