KUALA LUMPUR. A leading Canadian newsprint manufacturer predicts that the world shortage of newsprint will continue for at least another year. Mr Robert Bonner, chairman of Macmillan Bloedel, Ltd, Canada’s largest integrated forestry company,! said the demand for newsprint had exceeded present! supplies by at least 20 per; cent.. He estimated that it would! take at least 12 months before the demand stabilised or before production caught up with requirements. He emphasised that this estimate did not take into account the present oil crisis, which would adversely affect the newsprint shortage should it worsen.
