Virgin’s tomb unoccupied

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) VATICAN CITY, Nov. 18. Archaeologists have opened a tomb claimed to be that of the Virgin Mary at Gethsemane, in Jerusalem, and found it to be empty, the Vatican newspaper, “I’Osservatore Romano,” said today. The empty tomb accords with the Christian tradition of assumption—that Christ’s mother was taken up into Heaven. The tomb has been venerated for 19 centuries. It is in a small, arched room, and was covered with stone slabs in the course of repair work in 1956. When archaeologists reanoved the slabs, they found [bare rock on which Mary’s ibody was placed.
