Low scoring in women's games

St Albans I and II and Hagley took first-innings leads on the first day of the third round of matches in the women's senior cricket competition on Saturday. Western was put into bat by Hagley on a wet and poorly prepared pitch. Its opening batsmen. J. Olson and S. Cowles, defied the Hagley attack, and scored 50 for the first wicket. However, when these two were dismissed there was a dramatic collapse, and the side was out for 75, H. Kirk taking four wickets for only three runs. Hagley had reached 84 for four in its first innings, with P. Carrick 39 not out. Kirk had a useful double, scoring 29. Cashmere was another lowscoring team. Against St Albans I. it was all out for 43, S. Rattray taking five wickets for 25. St Albans declared its first innings closed at 79 for four wickets. Cashmere was five without loss in its second innings at stumps. Mai Moa made 80 against the St Albans second team. J. Lord, who has been bowling exceptionally well in recent weeks, continued her good form on Saturday by taking six wickets for the low cost of 10 runs, for the second week in succession. J. Schrader top scored for Mai Moa with 36. St Albans, thanks to D. Jelley (47 not out) and Miss Lord (40 not out), had reached 113 for five at stumps.
