Ashburton rider in moto-cross win

(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN. Riders from as far afield as Blenheim and Invercargill contested the zone one and two South Island semi-finals of the Pall Mall New Zealand motocross championship held tn muddy conditions at Sinclairs : Farm, Waihola, yesterday. Recent heavy rain left much I of the circuit extremely muddy and slippery, and as racing progressed the mud-pools turned to bog. The top South Island rider, R. Horsburgh (Ashburton) on a Honda, mastered the conditions and dominated the A grade events. His toughest opposition came from Roger Austin (Ashburton) on a Suzuki and John Shand (Mosgiel) on a Honda. In the B grade events the racing was very close, with G. Goodfellow, of Dunedin, on a Suzuki, R. Hill (Invercargill), Yamaha, and B. France (Christchurch), Suzuki, to the fore. In the C grade the New Zealand road lacing champion. J Landrebe, of Dunedin, showed his competition skills were not confined to the tarsea] by gaining two firsts and a second on his Honda. Landrebe, who took delivery of the machine only last week, was competing in his first full moto-cross meeting. Like the A grade, the 125 c.c. was dominated by one rider, A.
