New Rangiora factory

Lane, Walker, Rudkin, Ltd, is advertising for , staff for a new branch it is opening in Rangiora in the New Year. The branch will provide : work for about 60 women. Production at Rangiora will be concentrated on Jockey jeanery made in knitted crimplene and Jockey jackets. Both lines are new to the South Island. The plan was announced in Rangiora on Friday by two representatives of the company, Mr B. G. Graham, the chief methods engineer, and , Mrs Ellery, the personnel I officer, both of the Christj church branch.

The company intends to start production in Rangiora on January 14 and Mrs Ellery will be in Rangiora tomorrow, Wednesday, and Thursday in the afternoon to interview applicants and provide information about the work. Time off will be allowed for those planning to go to the Commonwealth Games and the possibility of a four and a half day week is being considered. The branch will begin with a staff of 20, with other groups of applicants starting at intervals of two weeks, building up to 60 in six weeks to two months. Mrs Ellery said that the new branch/as well as proIviding more work opportuni-

ties in Rangiora for older and married women, would allow fuller employment within the district for girl school leavers. Anyone wanting to start immediately would be employed at Christchurch until the branch opened, said Mr Graham. The new branch will be in the former mill buildings of McAlpines Rangiora. Ltd, on the site behind Harrisons I Pharmacy shopping block. The buildings have been extensively altered in recent weeks to fit in the new plant. The surrounding area will be landscaped with trees and shrubs and developed to provide off-street parking for the employees.
