HIGH PRICE OF APPLES
CN.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Nov. 15. : Apples are selling at a {record $l5 a case retail in iNew Plymouth. The president of the Taranaki Fruit Retailers’ Association (Mr G. Moral) said today that apples were retailing at between 9c and! 20c each, depending on their: size. The average was 39c! per lb. Prices at auction, he said,! had more than doubled since September, when the average: case was wholesaling at j $5.58. Today’s auction saw| prices at $l2 or more for a 401 b case. A Wellington spokesman for the Apple and Pear Marketing Board said today! that there was an end-of-, : season shortage throughout ; j New Zealand. “High prices have been re-' ported from Auckland and {Wellington, but $l2 a case' wholesale seems exception-, ally high,” he said. j
