Street numbers on shop premises

Sir, —With the pending tourist increase in Christchurch and the consequential increase in shoppers, perhaps the City Council could give thought to policing the bylaws of the city concerning the display of street numbers, as many city shops sadly lack this information. By far the major offenders are the large stores, probably because the average city dweller is aware of their location, and consequently the smaller shops are not so easily found. Many city intersections have street number signs erected, but it is frustrating for an elderly person to walk past numer-

ous unnumbered shops before realising he is going the wrong way.—Yours, etc., FOOTSORE. November 14, 1973.
