More remarkable, though,; is not that a top administrator is a competitor as well, but that Johnson would be I representing Canterbury for s for the first time as a senior, i He last rode for the pro- ’ vince as a junior in 1956 — : the same year as most of this < iyear’s Canterbury junior re- | I presentatives were born. . A four-man team of Johnson, R. Pemberton, C. A. P. Deller and G. V. Neale rose early on Sunday morning and went out in an attempt to beat a qualifying standard of 2hr 35min for the 100 km; team time trial. They succeeded, by Iminl 53sec, and are thus eligible} to ride as a time-qualified} Canterbury team in the} national championships. Canterbury is likely to fieldl two other teams but one will; have to ride a qualifying time. I Of the team which has al-! (ready qualified, Pemberton! (and Deller will be riding for} ■Canterbury for the first time! Ibut Neale has represented; the province several times; since 1969.
