Commonwealth Games meeting
Commonwealth Games funds will benefit from a special twilight equalisator meeting to be run by tlie Canterbury Trotting Owners’ and Breeders’ Association in conjunction with Round Table No. 1 at Addington Raceway on December 13.
Trophies valued about $2500 have been given, mostly by business houses in Christchurch. The nine-race programme, which will include events for fast-class pacers and trotters, will be run between 5.30 p.m. and 9.30 p.m. The organisers have received overwhelming support for an event to be known as the “Sportsmen’s Derby.” About 22 sporting bodies will be represented in what will be a relay event with competitors pulling sulkies carrying team-mates. A prize of $4OO will go to the organisation whose representatives win the final, which will be restricted to six. The heats will be run before the first race at the New Brighton Trotting
Club s meeting on December 1. Kotare Downs (Fernside) and Tara Lodge (Halswell) will give a whip' to any probationary drivers finishing first, second, or third in any of the nine races.
