PRO-AM WINNER

Charles in good form (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, The New Zealand lefthander, R. J. Charles, made a grand return to the home circuit with a round of 69, and first prize of $175, in the City of Auckland pro-am tournament yesterday. If to a man of Charles’s standing the prize money was peanuts, as a preview to his form in the City of Auckland Classic, which will start today, it was a well puttogether round and suggested he is right back in top form. However, in some atrocious conditions, Charles was lucky that he made an early start and had best use of the greens before heavy rain made them almost impossible. He finished one stroke ahead of M. Bembridge (England), K. D. G. Nagle (Australia) and W. J. Godfrey, all on 70, with P. Croker (Australia), J. M. Lister and T. S. Kendall following them, with 71. Godfrey and Bembridge, who started two hours after Charles, played the course at its worst, and were both impressive performers.
