Demand in America

As the United States currency strengthened in relation to the New Zealand dollar, an increasing demand would emerge for New Zealand lamb, and the market might require up to 5 million lambs by 1980, the Meat Export Company (N.Z.), Ltd, which sells on the North American market, said in submissions to the Meat Industry Commission in Wellington yesterday. In its submissions, prepared in September, the company said that in that season, some 1.4 m lambs in cut form would be sold in North America. Sales would be limited only by supplies, and the needs of the market were closer to 2m lambs.
