Quinney’s Bush, Nelson
Sir,—Since April 26 the donations at this amusement park and camp site, amounting to $5BO, have been used to purchase materials for a second toilet block and improved water supply. The sum of $5OO has been sent to C.0.R.5.0. for North African famine relief and the donations will now be to repay that sum. Because of children, would drivers carefully keep to 5 m.p.h. throughout the grounds? I would like to thank the public for appreciation of this property and the donations, which now total $12,010. Yours, etc., R. A. QUINNEY. Motupiko, Nelson. November 12, 1973. The traffic “blitz” Sir, —It is time the driving population of Christchurch grew up. This new sport of trying to outsmart the traffic officers, not to mention fellow drivers, only results in more bloodshed than on the battlefield. We hear such a lot about the “freedom of the individual.” The dead may be free, for them it is all over, but where is the freedom for the young person who is blinded, maimed or paralysed or whose brain-power is diminished forever? One reads the casualty lists and no matter how serious or otherwise the injuries, the recurrent theme is head injury. Let thinking people use their brains to combat these drunks, hooligans and smart Alecs and get them off the roads. Then maybe we can use our vehicles as a pleasure and convenience instead of a battering ram.—Yours, etC ” DRIVE AND LIVE. November 13, 1973.
