Music student exhibits applique
An exhibition of 32 applique designs by Pene Evison being displayed at the Canterbury Society of Arts Gallery reflects, in the patterns i she creates of mountains,; light and water, a interest in mountain climbing. / Pene Evison is a music! student at the University of h Canterbury and her ability in. the visual arts led to her gaining the fine arts preliminary examination in 1970. ' She has subsequently chan-; nelled her interest in the.) visual field into the cut-out,, ornamental work of applique. and in the best traditions of applique her work
is designed to be part of living. Cushions, curtains, wallhangings and clothes form the bulk of exhibits. She mostly chooses bright, ( gay colours to delineate her Hand form patterns and in ‘some wall decorations shej arranges her colours to form a partial spectrum. Where strong contrasts are ; not needed the use of a light gauze screen over some panels has the effect of creat-, ing harmonies. The exhibition will remain j open until November 21. —G.T.M.I
