EUROPEAN VISIT

Study of new care methods The Rev. D. Keane, head teacher at Marylands Home for retarded boys will leave Christchurch later this month for a 10 week study tour of the United States and Europe. He will look at the latest methods in residential care and special education, and concepts in design that will help in the planning of the new accommodation and school complex at Marylands. On his way to Europe Brother Keane will observe at centres for the study of handicapped children. In London he will take part in discussions arranged by the Department of Education and Science, and the Inner London Education Authority. In Belgium he will study mental deficiency and mental health, in Amsterdam Denmark and Sweden, confer with Government departments, and in Germany join in a scientific study group. His visit to Europe will end in Rome with visits and discussions arranged by the Brothers of St John of God, and he will return to Christchurch early in February.
