A QUIET BROWSE

The black hexagon on red pattern of the carpet in the basement section of the El Paseo was designed by Mrs Coralie Gough to match the Spanish motif of the decor. She herself runs La Tienda, a gift shop at the end of the arcade which has a wide variety of well finished leather, glass and pottery goods. “I estimate that on our late shopping night, Friday, we have about 40 people coming into the arcade every half hour,” says Mrs Gough, who did much of the painting in the lower section herself. The combination of soft music, shade, and bright, harmonious decor make the El Paseo a restful place to browse or shop away from crowds and traffic.
