TROTTING Repeat of Friday’s double predicted

The 10 to 1 odds about the Philemon-Robalan double are 1 expected to shorten considerably when the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club holds the first night meeting of its Cup meeting at Addington Raceway tomorrow.

Robalan will be opposed by a field of very mixed quality in the first leg. the Allan Matson Stakes, and will have to give starts of up to 30m to all but Royal Ascot, which shares the back back mark with him. Robalan paced a splendid race for fourth to Arapaho I in the New Zealand Cup, and was untested to win the iNew Zealand Free-for-all on I Friday. If he races with the [same dash, he should be a class above most in this I race. I Ryal was an impressive I winner in the Canterbury I Free-for-all last Tuesday. [ There is a sharp rise in } class in this event, but he looks capable of bridging it. Vanadium was a shade disappointing when sixth in the Cup. He was allowed to miss the free-for-all and might not be quite so jaded as some of the horses which contested both races. His ■ earlier spring form was good I enough to give him a winning chance. Auckland horses, although not large in number, have I enjoyed little success so far [at the meeting. Among the 'pacers none have been more ■impressive than Young Cardigan, which could well ■get into the finish of this race. His second on the first day and fifth to Robalan on Friday were pleasing runs. He deserves a win, which could well come in this race. Along with Hi Foyle and Scottish Charm, he appeals most of the others; while Young Quinn’s two placings so far at the meeting suggest that he will do best of the horses on handicap marks. Royal Scot, too, must be considered, as at his best he has few peers among the pacers racing today. Easton Light, Bachelor Tom, Bambi and Tunza Time should offer most opposition to Philemon in the New Zealand Trotting Free-for-all, a ‘race which looks to be made | to order for the Oamaruowned and trained eighti year-old. Fields, with form and drivers, for the T.A.B. double races are: 8.40 p.m.— ALLAN MATSON STAKES, $5000; C 9; 2600 m. [ 601 Ryet (1) It R. Cameron 4304 Hi Foyle (2) It P. Gallagher 50 Sassenach (3) It
