Exchange awards

Five young South Island business and professional men have been chosen to visit the United States next year as part of the Rotary international study exchange programme.

They are Mr T. Donaldson, of Fairlie: Mr M. Deaker, of Winton; Mr P. Malcolm, of Motueka; Mr R. Robertson, of Ashburton, and Mr N. Bullock, of Christchurch. Those selected are five “outstanding men between the ages of 25 and 35, not themselves Rotarians.” They will leave New Zealand in April and spend six weeks in Arkansas, studying the economic and social characteristics of the area. The study team will be led by the past president of the Rotary Group of Christchurch, Mr R. A. Ayton.

The group study exchange scheme is one of the educational activities of the Rotary Foundation, which provides the grants for teams to travel between Rotary districts in different countries.

Since the programme started in 1965, 500 group study awards involving 2735 young men in more than 50 countries have been granted.

The value of the awards so far is more than $3 million
