Mini-buses supported
Support for the idea of a city centre mini-bus service which could operate a “park and ride” service to parking buildings outside the city centre was expressed last evening by the chairman of The Christchurch City Council’s traffic committee (Cr W. Massey).
However, Cr Massey said, such a service would be a city-centre one only, and would have to be additional to the existing Christchurch Transport Board services. Cr Massey did not favour suggestions that such a minibus service could be privately operated. It would then be (virtually a private hire service which would cut across the service already offered by I taxis, and affect "their livelihood.
It would be more practical for a mini-bus service to be run by the Transport Board or by the City Council, Cr Massey said.
