Cost of study of Estuary
The cost of research engineering studies on flood control in the Avon and Heathcote Rivers and the Estuary to the Christchurch Drainage Board has been about $66,000. A model of the Estuary was constructed at the Wallingford Hydraulic Research Station in England. Further payments are to be made to a consortium of local engineers. The cost to the Drainage Board of the ecology report on the Estuary undertaken by the University of Canterbury was about $39,000. The Christchurch City Council and the Soil and Water Conservation Council made grants towards the cost of the report.
